Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney
Let's be honest, this is the "wonderful Christmas Time" you have after a few historically accurate magic mushrooms; but hey, whatever gets you through the season. Released in 1980 on McCartney's solo album McCartney II, it reportedly makes him $400,000/year in royalties. Not bad.
I especially like the simplicity of (simply having a) Wonderful Christmastime. The absence of newly being in love, or nursing a heartbreak, or being overwhelmed, or alone for the season doesn't take up space. Instead we're talking about the little mundane elements that make up holiday traditions: kids in the church Christmas pageant giving the off-key performance of their lives, "we're here tonight, and that's enough," Paul sings.
I love that.
