O Tannenbaum by the Vince Guaraldi Trio
Also known, interestingly, as "Dr. Funk" and "The Italian Leprechaun," Vince Guaraldi brought smooth, cool jazz to American (and other nationalities) children via the animated Peanuts score. I mean, how fucking cool is it that we can all have an instant childhood flashback when we hear the deep digging piano chords of A Charlie Brown Christmas. It was hard to pick just one track from A Charlie Brown Christmas by I settled on O Tannebaum because of the fascinating title.
The hoi polloi will know the melody as "Oh Christmas Tree;" Tannenbaum is the German word for Christmas Tree. That's it. But you have to admit referring to the Christmas decoration centerpiece in an international language gives one a certain elite, almost Frasier-esque quality
bonus points if you know exactly what Niles and Frasier are doing here |
Thanks, Vinny (I may call you Vinny?) for providing a musical bridge for chaotic children and gin-swilling adults to meet in the middle around this time of year.
